Hoyt is the Chairman & CEO of H.C. Murray Group and has been in the insurance industry for over 45 years. He began his career in 1978 at Dickenson, Murray, & Associates, where he was a partner for nineteen years; thereafter, he formed H.C. Murray Corp., which specializes in providing life, disability, and long-term care insurance solutions.
Hoyt acquired Harding & Jacob Insurance in 2012 in order to offer his clients full service in all risk management areas – from property and casualty to life and health. Today, H.C. Murray Corp. and Harding & Jacob Insurance are members of the H.C. Murray Group, and as a result, our clients can have all their insurance needs taken care of under one roof.
Hoyt is a Cleveland native. He attended University School and then went on to graduate from the University of Virginia with a BA in English. Hoyt met his wife, Gail, at UVA, and they have three children together – Scott, Cameron, and Allyson. The Murray kids are all “boomerangs” and have returned to live and work in Cleveland, Ohio. Hoyt and his family are big Cleveland sports fans, as well as supporters of University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Outside of work, Hoyt enjoys playing tennis, golf, and squash. He is also a fan of historical biographies, especially biographies on America’s founding fathers. Hoyt’s favorite quote is one from Calvin Coolidge on the importance of persistence:
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”
